Each student will be required to take the digital responsibility pledge at the start of the school year. They will not be allowed access to their own devices on school property, until both students and parent(s) and/or guardian(s) have signed and returned the pledge. Copies of the pledge will be visible in the classroom and reminders will be given throughout the school year. There is a sample of the pledge below:
Sir Winston Churchill’s Digital Responsibility Pledge
Ø As a student at Sir Winston Churchill, I have the right to learn in a supportive and safe environment, free of abuse, bullying, harassment, discrimination, intimidation, and hateful words and actions.
Ø I pledge to uphold the same standards in the digital world that I do in the physical world. I will be respectful of the diversity, cultural and special needs of those around me.
Ø I am responsible for taking appropriate care of all devices. Any damage or loss to my own device is my own responsibility. This may include computers, tablets, mobile devices, mp3 players, applications, games etc.
Ø I pledge to use all devices for the purpose they were provided for and I will not post photos, videos or images without the appropriate consent
Ø I will take responsibility for managing the accounts and passwords that provide access to data.
In accordance with the PDSB Policies and regulations, I pledge:
Ø “Not to copy, download, transfer, rename, add or delete information protected under copyright law”.
Ø Not to “Send, create, display or store fraudulent, harassing, sexually explicit, profane, obscene, intimidating, defamatory or otherwise inappropriate or unlawful materials”
Ø To “report any inappropriate use of email, data or unauthorized technology to a teacher or principal immediately”
Consequences:
Ø I understand that if I break my oath I will be subject to consequences that may include but are not limited to: limitations or suspension from the use of equipment, appropriate progressive discipline measures depending on the severity of the misuse, and legal action and prosecution if warranted.
I am a digital citizen and I am digitally responsible!
